Community service activities aim to strengthen the capacity of the community in inorganic waste management from domestic. An offline education involves 50 housewives from Posyandu participants. A pictorial pocket book on inorganic waste and how to manage it was developed as an educational media. The majority of housewives (82%) have good knowledge while the rest are categorized as sufficient (14%), and less (4%). Most of the housewives (92%) have a good attitude while others are quite moderate (4%). At the end of the education session, the pocket books are given to the housewives to study independently. After receiving education, housewives are expected to be able to properly implement inorganic waste management in the household environment so that the production of inorganic waste is reduced.

Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is an infectious disease caused by the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. This disease is still a health problem in Indonesia because the seasons are constantly changing and unpredictable, causing the disease to continue to rise and tends to be difficult to minimize. The main cause of this disease is related to the environment and the fact that there are still many mosquito larvae because the community does not carry out PSN (Mosquito Nest Eradication) and 3M Plus measures. And if the vector that causes DHF is not eradicated it can cause an outbreak. Epidemiological investigation activities are a form of community empowerment which aims to examine mosquito larvae which are vectors for DHF disease transmission and increase awareness of community behavior in carrying out DHF control and prevention. The method used was observation by observing the presence of Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae and interviews at RT 16, Lamaru Village, targeting DHF case sufferers and the people who live around it, as well as socialization regarding PSN DHF and 3M Plus and distribution of abate powder door to door. The results of the activities of the 20 houses examined were 75% positive for mosquito larvae in the bathtub and unused items in residents' homes with a larva-free rate of 25% where these results were still very low and did not meet the target of 95%. Efforts to prevent DHF can be increased through this activity with the community doing 3M Plus & PSN routinely every week.

Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever is one of the endemic diseases in East Kalimantan, which is caused by the dengue virus through the bites of the Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes that bite humans. Samarinda City is one of the areas that has experienced an increase in DHF cases, especially in the working area of the Baqa Health Center. This community service activity aims to carry out epidemiological investigations to prevent and limit DHF transmission in the working area of the Baqa Health Center. Activities carried out during the DHF epidemiological investigation include observing the surroundings of the house, examining larvae at the houses of DHF sufferers or other suspects as well as the environment around the house, visits to RTs related to anticipating the spread of DHF cases by providing leaflets and abates and providing larva observer books at each house. The results of the activity show that the response to epidemiological investigations is effective in increasing public knowledge and awareness of DHF transmission. The proactive attitude of the community to report DHF cases also needs to be done so that there are no delays in intervening DHF cases.
